Sep 1 1861" cds, letter states, "You no doubt will be much pleased to hear I still live, although I suppose you have given me up as dead long ago at the Battle of Manassas. I was shot through the leg and unable to run away, the consequence was I was taken Prisoner. I am now confined in the General Hospital Richmond. very well treated, plenty to eat and nothing to do.
