Confederacy, 1861, 5¢ green, full margins, tied by bold "Goldsborough, N.C., Aug 22" cds on Civilian Flag of Truce folded letter addressed to Judge William Daniel in Richmond, Va. with letter datelined "Clifton (N.Y. or N.J.) Aug 2nd, 1862", with sender's notation "If Judge Daniel is not in Richmond, the Post Master will kindly forward this to Lynchburg" at top and manuscript censor's "Ex." at left, re-addressed to Lynchburg with manuscript "Due 5" for forwarding, docketed "Rec'd pr New Berne (N.C.), 19 Augt/62" at right; stamp with vertical crease from file fold, F.-V.F., eastern North Carolina though-the-lines covers are rare.
