Confederacy, Richland Jail, Columbia, S.C., cover from Richland Jail to Westminster, Md., manuscript endorsement "Lieut. John P. Sheahan, Prisoner of War" at upper left and "Examined R.D. Senn, Capt. Pro(vost) Gd (Guard)" censor's endorsement at right, additional manuscript routing "Care of Robt Ould, Richmond Va.", a transfer agent who delivered the cover to Old Point Comfort, franked with United States 1861, 3¢ rose (65, light corner toning) tied by segmented cork cancel with "Old Point Comfort, Va. Sep. 8" (1864) double circle postmark at right, Very Fine and attractive, ex-Walske.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

Lt. Sheahan (31st Maine Regt.) was captured at Petersburg, Va. on July 30, 1864, escaping from Richland Jail in March, 1865, 39 covers are known from Richland Jail, this being one of the best preserved.
