Partial transcript "You will be surprised that I am off for Richmond tonight, I may be able to help some of our poor wounded soldiers… had the battle not come as it did I should have waited for Saturday but the wounded and dying need attention so I go at once. Nothing to serve them as well as our people at home… much anguish pain and suffering at home by our people, as well as that of our wounded soldier. This war has, and will, bring distress to every family in the land. May God in his goodness avert the further effusion of the blood of our people by the infernal foe that opposes us… Dr. Johnson goes with me."
