Ingram, A.Q.M., Grenada, Miss.", franked with 1863, 10¢ blue, vertical strip of four tied by "Augusta, Ga., Sep 23" cds's; some light staining in central portion of address panel, Very Fine, illustrated in Krieger's The Trans-Mississippi Mails After the Fall of Vicksburg (page 49).

ONE OF ELEVEN 40¢ TRANS-MISSISSIPPI EXPRESS RATE USAGES TO AND FROM ARKANSAS.

The Confederate National Express Mail Service was authorized in May 1863, for letters traveling across the Mississippi river. Delay caused the service to begin operation in November 1863. by then both Vicksburg (July 4) and Little Rock (Sept 10) had fallen into Union hands.
