P. Toney (Alabama River), two slightly overinked deep purple straight line handstamps on 1854 folded letter from Farfield to Mobile, Ala, additional "Steamer 5" in oval handstamp, Very Fine, ex-Somdal, Illustrated in Milgram.
Milgram No. 1147    Estimate $500 - 750.

THIS IS THE UNIQUE EXAMPLE OF THIS STEAMBOAT MARKING.

The "Pink Toney" was a sidewheel steamer built in 1852 at Louisville and served on the Arkansas and Alabama rivers. Later she served out of New Orleans and was lost at sea on July 28, 1858 without loss of life.
