Steamboat Markings - Louisville to Maryland (Milgram #818A-871A)

N.O. Natchez & Vicksburg Steamer Magenta (Mississippi River), bold and complete double circle handstamp without date on 1864-65 3¢ entire to New Orleans, postmarked "New Orleans Jan 11" duplex, usual pinholes as found on the Carroll Hoy correspondence, Very Fine, ex-Knapp, Illustrated in Milgram.
Milgram No. 833    Estimate $200 - 300.

The "Magenta" of 848 tons was built at New Albany, Indiana in 1864 and sold off the slips to Capt. David White and others for the New Orleans - Vicksburg trade. Sold again in November 1865 to Thomas P. Leathers with White retaining 3/8 share. In January 1866 Leathers and John Cannon owned equal shares.
