Steamer John Strader (Mississippi River), red 38mm circular handstamp with negative lettering on 1853-55 3¢ Nesbitt entire to New Orleans, endorsed "John Strader" at bottom left, usual pinholes found on the Carroll correspondence, Very Fine and rare, ex-Hall & Haas, Illustrated in Milgram.

THIS IS THOUGHT TO BE THE FINEST KNOWN EXAMPLE OF THE RARE MARKING.

The "Strader" burned and sank on the Mississippi River above Gaines Landing (Chicot County) on November 18, 1857.
