A RARE AND MOSTLY LIKELY UNIQUE LATE DEMONETIZED BUT ACCEPTED 1860-61 5¢ ORANGE BROWN & 5¢ BROWN COMBINATION USAGE FROM UNION-OCCUPIED NEW ORLEANS, LA.

The 5¢ orange brown, type II had a very short period of use as the earliest recorded usage is May 8th of 1861 and by August of that year the issue was demonetized. It is quite unusual that the New York exchange office did not recognize the demonetized issue and mark the cover as unpaid.
