1860, 24¢ gray lilac, block of 4, fresh and bright color, well-centered, four black grid cancels, one stamp has tiny thin speck (which is not evident or mentioned on clear cert.), Extremely Fine, ex-Emerson, Neinken, Zoellner, Rose & Twigg-Smith; with 1998 P.F. certificate.

BLOCKS OF THE 24¢ 1860 ARE CONSIDERABLY RARER USED THAN UNUSED. THIS PERFECTLY CENTERED BLOCK IS PROBABLY THE FINEST EXTANT.

Pencil note on back from Stanley Ashbrook: "This block is guaranteed to be genuine and sound. Used blocks of four of this stamp are very rare. The grids are genuine.", signed and dated "June 29, 1950".
