Dr. Batey (Mississippi and Ouachita Rivers), red oval handstamp struck over manuscript endorsement on 1853, 3¢ Nesbitt entire (backflap seal) to New Orleans, La., canceled by straight line "Steam" handstamp, red "New Orleans, La., Apr 13" cds, unusually strong watermark paper; file fold, otherwise Very Fine.
Milgram No. 359    Estimate $200 - 300.

The "Dr. Batey" of 281 tons built at Louisville Ky. in 1850, operating management was under the control of the New Orleans Coast & Lafource Transportation Company. The Dr. Batey later became a Confederate Ironclad in 1861.
