(Fort Buchanan, Arizona) 1860 (c., Mar. 15) New York N.Y. to Fort Buchanan, Arizona, New Mexico Territory, light buff cover endorsed "Over Land Mail Via St. Louis" bearing 1857, 3¢ dull red (26) tied by "New-York Mar 15" cds; small top edge mend and partial flap, Very Fine and attractive use.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

Fort Buchanan existed for only five years 1856 to 1861 and was part of New Mexico Territory as Arizona was not a separate territory until February 24, 1863. It was under constant threat from Apaches. This cover was carried along the Butterfield Overland Mail route from St. Louis to Arizona.
