AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1952 10Y ON 50S SURCHARGE ISSUE WITH "KAI" CHARACTER OMITTED IN A POSITIONAL BLOCK - A GREAT RYUKYUS RARITY.
This error came about due to the stocks of the 1st and 2nd surcharge printings where almost exhausted at the approach of the holiday season in 1952. An "emergency" 3rd printing of 400 sheets were ordered during the first week of December and where received from the printer on December 8th. Two pieces of type were missing from the surcharge form at the beginning of the press run resulting in this "Kai" character omitted as well as the "*" being omitted in position 54. These errors where quickly fixed and it is believed that no more then 11 sheets with these errors were printed and that no more than 8 to 10 examples have survived.
