This item represents the 'missing link' between the horizontal-comb postmarks used in Colonial Taiwan and those introduced in early 1942 for the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong. This contemporaneous forerunner is the only known Japanese marking used in mainland China which includes the 'Nippon' designation.
