Japanese Offices in China, Canton, Nippon, 2.8.41, Japanese Foreign-Mail style cds on "Government-General of Taiwan" Telegraph receipt sent from the Italian Consulate in occupied Canton, China (consular cachet of origin on reverse) to the Italian Consulate in Shanghai, Very Fine, a previously unrecorded and extremely rare transition piece.

This item represents the 'missing link' between the horizontal-comb postmarks used in Colonial Taiwan and those introduced in early 1942 for the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong. This contemporaneous forerunner is the only known Japanese marking used in mainland China which includes the 'Nippon' designation.
