New Zealand, 1857, Queen Victoria "Chalon Head", 6d chestnut, imperf, unwatermarked, margins large to just shaving frameline at bottom, tied by barred "6" in oval handstamp on mourning cover to London, England, manuscript "Via Marseilles" endorsement crossed out with stamp paying the normal ship letter rate, reverse with "New Plymouth, Fe 10, 1861" origin cds; stamp with some gum tone at right edge, otherwise Very Fine, an attractive solo usage of this scarce shade.
