1873, 10¢ brown, C.B.N.C. printing, silk fiber paper, o.g., lightly hinged, beautifully centered with immense margins, rich color, sharp proof-like impression on bright fresh paper, an Extremely Fine gem, ex-Wingate; with 1984 & 1997 P.F. certificates.Scott No. 161 var. $1,400.
A REMARKABLE EXAMPLE OF THE 1873 10¢ CONTINENTAL BANK NOTE ISSUE - THIS SILK-PAPER VARIETY IS LIKELY THE FINEST KNOWN.
The distinctiveness of this variety lies in the minuscule dark silk fibers dispersed throughout the paper, discernible only under close scrutiny. It is a characteristic shared with various other Continental printings, including the 1875 Issue, but notably absent in the National and American printings. Seasoned and well-informed philatelists will readily recognize and value the rarity of this stamp's paper type and its exceptional condition.
