Confederacy, Camp Asylum, Columbia S.C., cover addressed to "Lt. Benj. F. Whitten, Prisoner of War, Columbia, S.C. (by Flag of Truce)", manuscript notation "From William Whitten, Topsham. Maine" across top, franked with CSA 10¢ Blue (12) tied by Richmond, Va. Feb. (1865) cds, Very Fine.

Camp Asylum was located on the grounds of the former state lunatic asylum near the Charlotte Railroad depot. A high brick wall, surrounded the pen, making it far more secure than Camp Sorghum. Camp Asylum was closed on February 14, 1865. Harrison records eight covers known, most of which are addressed to the prison.
