(Earliest Known Use), inner envelope to Fall River, Mass. franked with USA 3¢ rose (65) tied by segmented cork cancel with two strike of "Old Point Comfort, Va. Jan. 20" (1864) double circle postmark, manuscript "By Flag of Truce" endorsement at top and backstamped "Fall River, Mass Jan 23, 1864" receiver, extremely attractive manuscript endorsement on reverse "Examined & Approved H.A.M. Henderson, Assistant Commissioner of Exchange", light vertical cover fold, Very Fine and attractive, only 11 known, 4 of the five with covers with stamps are with the stamps upside down, possibly meaning distress.

Cover written by Henry H. Heald, Captain of merchant vessel "Norman" which was captured off the coast of Florida, addressed to his wife in Fall River.
