British Offices in Cuba, 1850 Spain to San Francisco, Cal., folded letter carried outside the mails to Cuba, placed in the post at St. Jago de Cuba where rated "2/-" in red manuscript and with full clear strike of red "Paid At St. Jago De Cuba" Crown Circle handstamp, red boxed "30" rate handstamp applied upon arrival in San Francisco, with single disinfection slit, reverse with well struck "St. Jago De Cuba, Au 3, 1850" B.P.O. cds and additional "Kingston-Jamaica, Au 5, 1850" transit date stamp, Very Fine, an exceptionally rare cover with only a handful of this Crown Circle recorded and a very late date of use of both this and the date stamp, a probably unique incoming mail usage to the U.S. western states.SG No. CC4; £6,000 ($7,280) Estimate $4,000 - 6,000.
