Flag Machine Cancels - The Barlow Family Collection, collection of approx. 10,000 covers in seven large boxes formed over 60 years by Bill Barlow Sr. and Jr., this is perhaps the most complete state assemblage ever formed, covers are sleeved and arranged by state alphabetically, there a plenty of high point covers and better towns, note some advertising, few foreign destinations and interesting uses, a small sampling of noted items includes numerous involutes like Butte Mont., Denver Col., Kansas City Mo., Sioux Falls Tampa Fla., Spokane Wash., Tacoma Wash., a nice Boston selection, etc., a small sampling of better towns and machines includes: "Globe, Ariz., Apr 8, 1920" with "Fire is the Enemy…" slogan (cat $150); "Alleghany, Calif. Dec 2, 1932" (70pts), "Avalon, Cal." two Jul. 12 and 18th uses on Avalon picture post cards; "Simsbury, Conn. Rec'd, Sep 23" R dial (only R dial town); "Springdale, Conn." A14 (70 pts); "Delmar, Del. Feb, 1925" A-14 dial (70pts); "Dover, Del. Dec 24, 1909" B-14 diff. die (75pts); two "Smyrna, Del." A14 covers (80pts); "Jacksonville, Fla. May 22, 1917" A14 use (believed Naval Station PO, 80pts); "Gainesville, Fla. Jan 12, 1909" A14 (80pts); two with "Gainesville, Fla" A38 "University Sta." flag (70pts), two "Homestead, Fla." A14 (70pts); two with Key West Fla. "Over-Sea Railroad Celebration" flag (cat $250), "Augusta, Ga, Aug 24, 1917" A14 used at Camp Hancock (90pts) plus a second one; "Savannah, Ga. Dec 2, 1896" with black dial (80pts); "Chicago, Ill Sta. A, Dec 17, 1894" with "2" flag (Langford $200); "Colorado Sp'gs, Colo. Sep 15, 1899" different die, "Hartsells, Ala. Dec 21, 1923" flag; "Louisville, Ky. Nov 19, 1896" with "1" flag (80 pts), "South Bend, Wash.", etc., skipping ahead to nice selection of Washington D.C with many high-points like "Washington, D.C. Dec 13, 1894" D13 use ($80), "Washington, D.C. Aug 6, 1895" D13 blank dial (90pts) and group of A14 star dials incl. 11-96 Mar. 4th use on post card ($125), "San Antonio, Tex." with "International Fair" slogan ($200), three with Cuero Tex. "Turkey Trot"; and much much more; some mixed condition, F.-V.F.
