American Postal Machine Company, Boston, Mass, Apr 16, 1916, stars in Field flag cancel ties 1¢ Wash-Frank on picture post card to Washington D.C.; accompanied by additional American Postal Machines group of 11 Boston fantasy cancel, four on cover and seven on piece, Very Fine and interesting group, ex-Langford. Estimate $200 - 300.
The "Stars in Field" flag was listed in the first edition of the Flag Cancel Encyclopedia (p. 27), noted in the second edition as a collector made fantasy, then disappeared from the record. This is likely the only example. Unusual since other fantasy flags have been continually listed. There may be more to the story as this was kept by Langford with his other prized rare flags.
