Leavitt Machine Company

Lot 685

Leavitt Machine, "Boston, Mass. Jan 30, 82", Type X2B strike with serrated bar killer ties 1¢ gray blue (206) on unsealed D.L. Guernsey Publisher all-over illustrated advertising cover to East Bethel Vt., "Royalton Vt. Jan 31" transit backstamp, original printed enclosure; some edge wear, Very Fine and attractive.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

The position of the pins (one tears cover) confirm that a different machine was in use. The markings are those of Group 3, a design with two groups of three pins, an arrangement previously reported in two machines used concurrently for about a month in Philadelphia and Baltimore. The downward tilt of the canceller suggest that that the Baltimore machine was later used in Boston (see the X1A Baltimore use).

Realized: $240
