1843 (Jul. 17) Malaga, Spain to Boston, Mass., folded letter carried privately to Gibraltar where posted with "Gibraltar/Paid" framed handstamp and red manuscript "2/11" 2s11d prepaid single packet rate, Liverpool (7.31) backstamp, carried by Cunard Line Hibernia from Liverpool Aug. 4 to Boston arriving Aug. 17, Boston red "Ship 6" fancy due handstamp, Very Fine and scarce rating.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

P&O steamship "Oriental" of the of the Alexandria Line carried letter to Falmouth. 2s/11s was special rate established by Treasury Warrant of September 1840 for letters to U.S. from Gibraltar not going through London.
