Hawaii, 1865, Numeral, 5¢ blue on blue, plate 9-A, type X, position 2), ample to large margins, tied by grid cancel on cover to Titus M. Coan at Albion, N.Y., in combination with U.S. 1863, 5¢ brown (76), each tied by cogwheel cancel with matching "San Francisco, Cal., Oct. 9, 1865" cds, red "Honolulu, U.S. Postage Paid, Sep. 16" cds also tying U.S. stamp; U.S. stamp with perfs trimmed at top, small cover repair and missing most of right flap, a Fine and attractive usage, ex-Crocker & Atherton.

Carried aboard the American bark "Onward" which departed Honolulu September 16th and arrived in San Francisco on October 7th, 1865. It was then carried by the Overland Mail.
