Great Britain, 1857 Chester, Great Britain to New York, N.Y., cover franked with 1847 1sh green (cut to shape) + 1856-58 1d tied by numeral "180" barred oval duplex cancel of Chester with brown manuscript underlined "above 1/2 oz" & handstamped "48" cents due marking, backstamped "Liverpool De 7, '57" cds, Very Fine. As this wasn't sufficiently prepaid, it was treated as totally unpaid at the rate of 24 cents per half ounce. The only sailing that fits the Liverpool markings is that of the Collins Line steamer "Adriatic", departing on her final voyage for this line from Liverpool on 9-Dec-1857, arriving New York 21-Dec-1857.
