Lot 1768 P

Official Seal - Registry, 1872, green, Plate Proof on Wove, sheet of 9, large sheet margins, bright and fresh, pos. 5 is type 6 and position 7 is type 2 from the plate of 3x10, Very Fine, ex-Gerlach.
Scott Nos. OXF1P    Estimate $2,000 - 3,000.

THE UNIQUE NATIONAL BANK NOTE COMPANY PLATE PROOF SHEET OF NINE.

William Gerlach demonstrated in his Collectors Club article that constant flaws on some of the clichés in this proof are also to be found on used seals. At the same time, Barlow's research shows that at least two clichés in this proof also occur in panes from the three by ten plate, which proves this 3x3 pane is a National Bank Note Company product.
