A PHENOMENAL AND EXTRAORDINARILY RARE STRIKE IN RED OF THE NEW ORLEANS BRITISH POST OFFICE CIRCULAR DATE STAMP, ONE OF TWO KNOWN STRIKES IN RED OF THIS SHORT-LIVED MARKING.
The network of British Packet Agencies to operate the transatlantic packet system was re-established in 1814 after the War of 1812. The New York Agency opened in that year followed by further offices including New Orleans in 1842 and closed by the end of that year. It was later reactivated from 1848 to 1850.
