Via Southern Overland Mail, routing endorsement on rebacked cover front to agent at the National Telegraph in St. Louis, Mo., franked with 1857, 3¢ dull red (26) tied by "Sonora, Cal., Jan 25" cds, with "Due 7" rating cross-out (under 3,000 miles rate), Very Fine appearance, a rare usage sent over the Jackass Route. Estimate $200 - 300.
This cover carried a message to the National Telegraph office in St. Louis where the message was then telegraphed to the east coast thereby saving three days time.
