Wells, Fargo & Co., blue oval on 3¢ green entire with printed "Wells, Fargo & Co." frank to San Francisco Cal., printed "Summit Hotel, on line of C.P.R.R" clamshell corner card; flap tear, Very Fine. Estimate $150 - 200.
"Jolly Jim" Cardwell opened the Summit Hotel perched at the top of what is now called Donner Summit. Its orientation was quite odd. It was located beside the railroad tracks with its front door directly upon the entrance between two railway snow sheds.
