Newfoundland, 1897, 1¢ carmine rose, horizontal strip of four, used with 2¢ orange (81) pair and single, tied by grid cancels and oval "R" registry handstamp at left, matching "Harbor-Grace, Newf'd, DE 7, 9" rimless cds on registered cover to Utica, N.Y. prepaid 10¢ for 5¢ letter rate plus 5¢ registry fee, various backstamps including St. Johns (12.8), purple Boston (12.12) registry oval and Utica (12.13) arrival cds, fresh and Very Fine, ex-Walsh. The red Queen Victoria and orange Prince Edward stamps arrived in St. John's on Saturday, December 4th. The stamps were sent to outlying post offices on the 6th. December 7th 1897 is listed by the Newfoundland Specialized Catalog as the earliest date of use for this issue.
