Walker, Diarbekir" black on white label affixed, carried out of the mails with merchandise to Aleppo, blue Aleppo negative seal handstamp, received "Dec 26, 58" in manuscript on label; opening tear and small edge flaws, F.-V.F. and scarce. James M. Gordon, treasurer for the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, Boston, functioned as a forwarder for mail to missionaries all over the world. He prepared labels and sent mail as consignees letters with goods. Consignee's letters required no foreign postage. Rowe records Gordon as a forwarder, but only using a handstamp marking.
