Confederacy, New Orleans, La., 1861, 2¢ black, fine strike strike of "PD 2 CTS/N.O.P.O" two-line provisional handstamp with matching "New Orleans La. Feb 12, 1862" River Mail cds on folded cover addressed to Judge Buchanan in New Orleans La., the address panel has been reduced and re-attached to original back, F.-V.F., ex-Warren; with 2007 C.S.A. certificate.

ONE OF SEVEN RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE NEW ORLEANS 2¢ PROVISIONAL ENTIRE.

The river mail cds indicates this was incoming river mail at the dock. The addressee, Judge Buchanan, was a very well respected jurist in New Orleans.
