(New York to Boston Express Mail) U.S. Express Mail N.Y. 'N.-York' Apr 24, red cds on blue 1850 folded letter from New York City to Boston Mass. bearing 5¢ red brown (1), large margins to clear, bright shade approaching the orange brown, canceled by stylized manuscript "X"; light vertical file fold well away from stamp, stamp with light wrinkle at right, fresh and Very Fine, ex-Wagshal.
Towle No. 73-B-4    Estimate $300 - 400.

Put onto Route 801 at the pier at New York. Carried through on the combined steamboat and railroad route to the ship owner William F. Parrot at Boston.

Notation on back indicates the adhesive is from the cleaned plate before Fourth Delivery and is a rare color.

(9.28) transit backstamp and matching "6" pence due rating, Annapolis (10.3) arrival backstamp; small portion of flap torn away, Very Fine and nice cross border Express Mail usage.

Carried on Route 207. Sent probably via Concord and Boston for Alden, located 20 miles east of Buffalo.

(Northern Railroad) Northern R.R., Sep 22, blue route agent cds with matching blue cancel on 5¢ brown (1), large margins except in at left, on 1849 folded letter datelined "Royalton, Vermont Sept 22 / 49" to Boston Mass., Fine, Rarity V.
Towle No. 24-A-2    Estimate $200 - 300.

Put onto Route 301 from Royalton, Vermont to White River Junction for transfer at White River Junction to Route 207 for Concord and Boston.

The mail cars by this date were running through from Burlington to Boston and the Route Agents used whatever date stamp they were carrying with them irrespective of where the letter was put onto the car.
