(New York & Erie Railroad) N-Y & Erie R.R., Jun 21, red route agent cds with matching open grid cancel on 3¢ dull red (11A), three margins, on small cover with original "Horseheads June 1853" enclosure to Chemung; 3¢ corner crease, bit of flap missing, Very Fine and scarce, Rarity VII.
Towle No. 125-C-1    Estimate $200 - 300.

Cover from Horseheads, N.Y. to Chemung located 13 miles east of Elmira on Route 1003. A branch line from Horseheads running 6 miles south to Elmira was included in the contract for the route. The letter therefore was carried a total of 19 miles between Horseheads and Chemung. On transfer to the main line the Route Agent struck his date stamp for June 21st.

(New York & Erie Railroad) N.Y. & Erie R.Road, two covers with strikes of route agent in red and black, comprising 1848 red strike with matching "5" rating h.s. from New York to Honesdale Pa.; and 1851 Mar 3rd black strike with matching "5" rating h.s. from Calicoon to Deposit; latter with tear, F.-V.F. pair.
