(New Jersey Railroad & Transportation Company) New York & Phila R.R., Aug 10, blue cds with 5¢ dark brown (1a), four clear to mostly large margins with intense color, on blue 1847 folded letter from Philadelphia Pa. to New York City; certificate mentions "slightly oxidized", however in our opinion it is nothing but a dark early shade with sharp, first printing impression, cover with tiny bit on staining, Very Fine, ex-Mirsky; with 2003 P.F. certificate.Towle No. 240-A-3 Estimate $300 - 400.

(Northern Central Railroad) No. Central R.R., blue 30mm cds ties 3¢ ultramarine (114) on purple cover to New York City; tiny bit of perf tip toning, F.-V.F.Towle No. 195-E-1 var. Estimate $300 - 400.
Envelope file noted "18 June" and carried on Route 1821 for Williamsport and transfer eastward via Washington and Baltimore for New York in circa 1869. Although Towle recorded four datestamps on this route, they were all between 25 to 26.5 mm diameter. This 30mm example is a previously unrecorded type.

Entire carried west to Crestline on Route 10330 to receive the Route Agent marking. At Crestline routed via Columbus on the Cleveland, Columbus & Cincinnati R.R. to Columbus. To Xenia on the Columbus and Xenia R.R. and on to Cincinnati on the Little Miami R.R. for Locust Corner 18 miles east.
