A VERY RARE BALLON MONTÉ COVER CARRIED BY THE ROUGET-DE-L'ISLE OF WHICH PERHAPS ONLY 3-4 COVERS EXIST.

This balloon carried only official dispatches - no mail was postmarked by the Paris Post Office. Private letters were included only if entrusted to the pilot (as "plis confiés"), and all such are extremely rare.

Dom^que-S^t-Gn 53, 7^E, 22 Dec. 70" double circle postmark and franked with 20c Cérès (small defect) tied by numeral "20" Star cancel, backstamped "Elbeuf, 1 Janv. 71" arrival postmark, Very Fine and attractive, This is from the 7^E collection, the last of the day, as such the mail was processed the following day and carried by the Tourville.
