Lot 3041    

Confederacy, Confederate States Collection, 1861-65, collection in one binder which includes stamps, covers, currency, fractional currency, etc., noted is an 1864 cover from Houston, Tex. to Danville, Tex. franked with 10¢ Davis with original enclosure datelined "HdQurts Labor Bureau" which reads Madam, Your boy "John" drowned from off board Steamer Diana Galveston. The particulars of the case I can not give. He was drowned July 25th, 1864. and is signed by "F.H. Rice, Lt. & Chief Labor Bureau", few nice covers are included with mostly common frankings, plus some interesting currency, also of interest is seven covers addressed to Confederate States of America Prisoner of War, Clifton Didlake while imprisoned in Camp Morton (3) and Fort Delaware (4), additionally there is one binder full of fakes, forgeries, phantasies, and Cinderella items of the confederacy, most are crude reprints or reproductions, mixed condition, a fascinating lot, worth inspection.

(S-NC-08 $400), "Adjutant General's Office, Raleigh, N.C." with 10¢ #11 (S-NC-15 $400 listing example), "Subsistence Department, Raleigh N.C." 10¢ #11 (S-NC-36 $400); and stampless "Medical Director's Office, General Hospital N.C." (WD-MD-16 $500) and "State of North Carolina, Executive Department" (S-NC-01) cover uncancelled addressed to County Clerk at Jackson N.C.; nice condition with a couple flaws, F.-V.F. and rare group.
