Leavitt Machine Cancels on Postal Cards Collection, approximately 138 cards (UX5-9; mostly UX5) with range of different cancels and types from Boston, New York, Albany, Baltimore, Washington DC (incl on a couple of Census Office penalty cards), San Francisco, Indianapolis, Chicago, Brooklyn, St Louis, Kansas City, Newark, Buffalo, Rochester, Providence, Dayton, Toledo, Philadelphia; some flaws, F.-V.F. and interesting group for the specialist.

Machine Cancels, 1870s-1900s, approximately 600 including 75 or so Leavitt cancels from the 1870s-80s on post cards, two covers with 1881 experimental "Boston Mass. Oct 81" Leavitt (Type X1B Die I) experimental machine cancellation on 1¢ #182 circular rate uses, one with a double strike of cancellation; rest is 1880s-1930s with a good variety including some errors or other varieties in the cancels, not 1893 Fitchburg Mass. Barnard, 1890-95 Constantine uses, 1901 Geary "Bradford Pa" unlisted type similar to Hamner EX6; 1905-06 Silver Creek diamond machine; 1899 Memphis Tenn. "Street Fair" Barry cancel, flag cancels, etc; some with advertisements; mixed condition.

Pointing Hand and Returned Mail Collection, 1870s-1980s, group of over 265 covers and cards showing study of pointing hand return handstamps, includes mounted portion of about 128 pages showing detailed write-ups on types and auxilliary markings, some interesting usages including foreign destinations, registered mail, special delivery, postage dues, incoming foreign mail, dead letter office, post office seals, etc., a wonderful collection formed over many years, F.-V.F.

"Too Late" and "Late Free" Collection, 1894-1938, of 13 overseas postal entires; includes seven New York too late markings, two types including five single straight line markings including 1894 postal card usage, and two red three line "Received, Too Late, Steamer Sailed" both uprated with 1902 definitives, also a S.F. 1909 Too Late in oval usage, and 1930's late fee usages (akin to supplementary mail) including Hawaii & Puerto Rico usages.
