Worldwide, (Europe) 1822 Cadiz to Calella, Spain, folded letter datelined "Cadiz 4 de Octre de 1822" with red "Cadiz" straight line handstamp and single vertical disinfection slit, letter with interesting content (in Spanish)…Even though after my arrival here on the 25th last I wrote you, I omitted to tell you why. The reason being the Epidemic which cut the communication of this city with the Port on the 26th, but luckily it stopped only having had 5 victims confined to their homes and from that time no more victims., Very Fine.Estimate $200 - 300.
According to S. Nathan's "The Disinfected Mail of Spain", very little disinfected mail is found in Spain in 1822 as the few remaining pockets of yellow fever had been contained. This rare letter shows one of the last small pockets of yellow fever being contained that year in Cadiz.
