Philippines, Revenue, 1899, 1p dull pale lilac, vertical pair, margins close with corner nick, tied by blue boxed "Canceled" handstamps on U. S. Customs House permission form dated "Manila Jan 28th, 99" granting work on the cargo on board the S.S. "Elcano", in combination with Revenue, Provisional, 1898, 40c Sello + 10c Movil Especial, red "CHS" initials of Lieut. C.H. Sleeper, strip of five (349A) tied by boxed handstamps; file folds affecting strip, F.-V.F., the only reported combination use of the 1899 1p Sello issue on document as well as a very early use of this issue (Warren 366).
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

Lot 2219

Philippines, Revenue, 1899, 10c red brown, horizontal pair, in combination with Revenue, Provisional, 1899 5c Movil Especial, "U.S. Internal Revenue" handstamp (507) tied by blue straight line "Guards will admit" handstamp on Vapor "Montanes" bill of lading with red illustrated full rigged ship at top, signed "J.D. Miley, MP"; some minor edge wear, F.-V.F., a rare revenue combination (Warren 514a).
Estimate    $400 - 600.

Philippines, Revenue, Provisional, 1898, 10c Movil Especial, "CFM" initials, on 1898, 1p Sello revenue stamped paper (Sello 7) with "CFM" initials, document of November 1, 1898 business licence (to establish a bar) with full signature of Capt. C.F. Mudgett; document file fold and light corner stain, still Very Fine, believed to be the only known document with full signature of Capt. Mudgett (Warren 347C).

Philippines, 1958, 30¢ on 2p Documentary, double overprint, corner margin block of 4, o.g., never hinged, showing second diagonally split second overprint on three stamps, Very Fine, the only known examples of this overprint variety (Warren 1336d var.).

Philippines, Revenue, 1930-40, 500p Custom Fee, two vertical pairs, right halves of stamps, in combination with Revenue 1930-40 200p + 50p + 20p pair + 2p pair + 20¢ pair + 2¢ + 1¢ Custom Fee, all right halves, on October 29, 1941 coastwise license for the steamer "Mayon" to engage in coastwise trade of the Philippines for one year; usual file folds affecting some stamps, Very Fine appearance, very scarce (Warren 879A//893A).

Philippines, Revenue, 1947 Custom Fee "Victory" issues, on 8 coastwise licenses all dated 1947, Custom Fee issues include 50p (2), 20p (4), 10p (3), 2p (12), and 1p (4), a pair of 10p with serial numbers 189 & 190 were probably used on the first day of sales (March 26, 1947), all with additional documentary issues (30), Very Fine, a scarce group.

Warren.
