Panama, 1888, Registration, 10c Black on Gray, blue "983" handstamp, used with 1¢ green, 2¢ rose pair with s.e. at bottom, and 5¢ blue, latter just tied by "Colon, 3 Jun 1893" cds on cover to San Marino, New York (6.13) backstamp transit and New York exchange label affixed, Rimini (6.24) backstamp transit, San Marino (6.25) arrival cds and forwarded via Rimini (6.26) to somewhere in Italy (addressed erased), partial July 1st arrival backstamp; cover toning, Fine, an exceptionally rare destination.

Panama, 1900, Registration, 10c Black on Light Blue, group of six covers from the Luria correspondence to Germany, all bearing registry stamps with "2783" to "3343" handstamped number, used along with 1892 2c rose, strip of five, tied by "Panama" cds dated Mar. 26th and Mar. 27th 1900, each with New York (4.6) transit backstamp and registry exchange label affixed, Hamburg (4.16) arrival backstamps; also includes one piece, couple small faults, F.-V.F. group.

17 almost identical Luria covers from Panama March 26-27 to Hamburg have been recorded. The lowest number is "2771" and the highest is "3529".

Panama, 1902, Registration, 20c on 10c Brown Red, Local Non-Serif Overprint, purple "20" non-serif overprint handstamp, manuscript "523" number, used with Panama 1895 20c violet, two singles tied by purple "Bocas del Toro, 17 Jul 1902" cds on pink cover to San Francisco Cal., blue Mobile (7.22) transit backstamp with Mobile registry label (FX-MO1) affixed, San Francisco (7.28) arrival backstamp, Chinese docketing and handstamp; top edge nick and part of back removed, otherwise Very Fine.

ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED USAGES OF THIS BOCAS DEL TORO LOCAL NON-SERIF SURCHARGE REGISTRY STAMP.

This cover shows that Bocas del Toro used registry stamps with a local surcharge and are not currently listed in the catalogs. Both usages showing this surcharge were sent on July 17th 1902.

On April 14th 1902, postal rates were double. The stock of the provisional registration stamps was surcharged with a "20" over each 10c.

(FX-NY1a(ii)) registry label affixed; light vertical fold barely affects F5, otherwise Very Fine.
