1851, 12¢ gray black, three large margins, touching outer frameline at left, tied by face-free "San Francisco Cal. 1 Aug" cds on circa 1853 buff cover to New Bedford Mass. at two-times the 6¢ rate for over 3,000 miles; 12¢ corner creasing, a Very Fine and scarce single use at double the 6¢ rate, ex-Krug; signed by Ashbrook on reverse.

1851, 12¢ black, diagonal bisect, large margins except corner clipped, tied by "San Francisco Cal. 1 Aug" cds (inverted day slug) on 1853 folded letter to Boston Mass., inside endorsement of "Pr Northern", clean and Very Fine, ex-Judd; with 1973 P.F. certificate.
