(Mariposa) Yosemite Valley, Cal., Oct. 8, 1881, two strikes of blue cds (MAR2210) tie 3¢ green (!84) on cover to San Francisco Cal., printed "Yo-Semite Valley Hotel" boxed corner card, reverse with San Francisco (10.10) arrival cds; toned perf, reduced slightly at right, Very Fine and scarce.

(Mono) Bodie, Calif., Jan 10, 1931, cds and bar duplex (MON-0310) on S. M. Gregory corner card cover to Sacramento, Very Fine, by the early 1930's Bodie was all but a ghost town with few people living on site (no photo).

(Mono) Esmeralda, Cal, Oct. 28 /62, manuscript postmark (MON-650, R5) on cover to Shushan, New York, franked with 1857, 10¢ green, type V with manuscript "Old Thing" notation over portrait on stamp and "Due 10" rating to left; stamp scissor clipped, Very Fine.

A WHIMSICAL AND UNIQUE "OLD STAMPS NOT RECOGNIZED" DEMONETIZED USAGE FROM ESMERALDA, CALIFORNIA.

Manuscript postal marks are recorded from this ghost town between March of 1862 and May of 1863. In January 1864, a boundary survey placed the town in Nevada.

(Mono) Esmeralda, N.T., Sep, 21, 1863, bold cds (MON-665) on cover to London, England, franked with 1861, 3¢ brown rose, pair + 24¢ violet (guideline s.e. at left) canceled by target handstamps, red "New - York, Am. Pkt., 3 Oct 17" exchange cds and 3¢ pair additionally tied by red London entry postmark; cover opening tears at right and left 3¢ stamp bottom margin nicked, otherwise Very Fine (See Lot 875 for Nevada Usage).
Scott No. 65+70c    Estimate $300 - 400.

This cover is the most important usage of the "Esmeralda. N. T." postmark used in the California Period before being transferred to Nevada on January 20, 1864.
