1862, 5¢ red brown, choice centering with bright shade, in combination 1¢ blue (63) and 24¢ red lilac (70), straddle line s.e. at left, well centered within jumbo margins, all tied by NYFM circular open grids on 1863 folded letter prepaying double the 15¢ treaty rate, red "New York 'Paid 24' Feb 17" exchange cds, carried as endorsed by Cunard Line Europa from Boston Feb. 18th to Queenstown arriving Mar. 3rd, red Calais (3.5) entry cds and matching large "P.D." framed handstamp, Paris (3.5) arrival backstamp; 5¢ with trivial light crease, Extremely Fine, ex-Emerson, Klein; with 2005 P.F. certificate, Ashbrook notes.

A COLORFUL AND EXCEEDINGLY RARE 1861 ISSUE COMBINATION FOR THE DOUBLE TREATY RATE TO FRANCE.

The vast majority of double treaty-rate covers to France are prepaid with a single 30¢ stamp or three 10¢ stamps. Combinations of other values are quite scarce including the 1¢, 5¢, 24¢ being extremely rare.
