1850 (Jun. 18) London, England to New York N.Y., folded letter with red London (6.18) Maltese cross datestamp with red manuscript "1/" shilling prepaid rating, Liverpool (6.19) transit and small red "21 Cents" credit handstamp, carried by Collins Line Pacific from Liverpool Jun. 19th to New York arriving Jul. 1st, New York red "Paid" arc handstamp, Very Fine, Carried on the Maiden Return Voyage of the Collins Line Pacific. This was second voyage of the line.

1850 (Jun. 18) Philadelphia Pa. to Ballymena, Ireland, blue folded cover with blue "Philada Pa. Jun 18" cds, scarce strike of red "Phila. 24 Cts. Paid" octagonal rating handstamp, red New York "19" cent credit handstamp to G.B., carried by Cunard Line America from New York Jun. 19th to Liverpool arriving Jun. 30th, red Liverpool America (6.30), reverse with red London (7.1) and blue Ballymena (7.2) arrival cds; light wrinkling, Very Fine.

1850 (Aug. 30) Glasgow, Scotland to Montreal, Canada, blue folded letter with red "Glasgow, Paid, 30 Au 1850" framed postmark and red manuscript "1/2" 1s2d prepaid rating, Liverpool Aug. 21st transit backstamp, carried by Cunard Line Asia from Liverpool Aug. 31st to Halifax arriving Sep. 9th; minor fold toning, F.-V.F., This was the last Eastbound Cunard transatlantic sailing calling at Halifax.

1850 (Oct. 22, Nov. 18) Arctic Maiden Voyages, two covers: Maiden Voyage Westbound, red "Alexandria Va., 22 Oct" cds with matching "Paid" straightline and manuscript "24" cent rating, New York red "3" credit handstamp, carried by Arctic from New York Oct. 27th to Liverpool arriving Nov. 7th, red Liverpool America (11.7) transit and Glasgow receiving backstamp; Maiden Voyage Eastbound, "London, 18 NO 18, 1850" cds, Liverpool (11.19) transit cds and "3 Cent" debit rating, carried by Arctic from Liverpool Nov. 20th to New York arriving Dec. 4th, black "New York '24' Dec 5" debit exchange cds, minor tape staining, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

The New York & Liverpool United States Mail Steamship company (Collins Line) was the first serious challenge to dominance of the Cunard Line. The "Arctic", one of four sister vessels of 2,856 gross tons was built by William H. Brown of New York for Collins. Lost in collision on September 20th 1854 with over 300 lives lost.
