(Retaliatory Rates) 1848 (Dec. 15) Liverpool & London, England to New York & Boston, pair of retaliatory usages at 24¢ and 29¢ rates carried by Cunard Line Europa from Liverpool Dec. 16th to New York arriving Dec. 31st, first with red "Paid at Liverpool Dec 15 1848" framed postmark with matching red "1/-" shilling packet rating, New York red "24" retaliatory rating for port of arrival, other with red London Paid (12.15) cds with red manuscript "1/-" shilling packet rating, red "New-York Ship '29cts' Jan 1" integral retaliatory cds for 5¢ inland postage plus 24¢ packet fee, a Very Fine pair, This was the final westbound retaliatory sailing to the United States.

(Retaliatory Rates) 1848 (Dec. 31) Malaga, Spain to Boston, Mass., folded letter with blue octagonal "Consulate/U.S./Malaga" handstamp privately carried to London, entered mails with red "Paid NO 3" Maltese cross postmark and red manuscript "1" shilling prepaid packet rating, carried on Cunard Line Acadia from Liverpool Nov. 4th to Boston arriving Nov. 19th, light strike of Boston red "24" cent retaliatory due rating, Very Fine and attractive retaliatory rate use from Spain.
