Hawaii, "Lahaina Oct 6, 1845", dateline on folded letter to Mrs. Melissa Dodge at New York City, endorsed "Per Capt Pendleton, Ship B. Morgan" at lower left, entered mails with red "New London Conn. Apr 15" cds and matching "Ship" straightline and manuscript "7" cent rating; some insect damage mostly on inner leaves, otherwise Very Fine.Estimate $500 - 750.
The "Benjamin Morgan" was a whaling ship built in 1826 at Philadelphia. She departed New London Nov. 1843 with Chistopher Pendleton as her Master for this voyage, returning April 15th.

"Registered by Hong Feart, Kapaa, Kauai, H.I.", Very Fine and choice, A rare example of this "Registered." straightline from Kauai.Estimate $500 - 750.
