Confederacy, 1862, 5¢ light blue, De La Rue printing, horizontal pair, margins to touched, tied by partial "Charleston S.C. Dec 31 186" cds on cover with all-oval tan shaded ad for Horsey Auten dealers in Hats, Caps and Straw Goods, addressed to Dalton Ga.; corner torn at bottom left, F.-V.F.

Confederacy, 1862, 5¢ light blue, De La Rue printing, four margins, slightly affected by cover wrinkling, tied by "Charleston S.C. Jul 8 1862" cds on light buff cover to Aiken S.C., manuscript "Official Business" notation at top left, manuscript "due" rating and "5" cent due handstamp; cover tear at bottom right, still a Very Fine use.
Scott No. 6    Estimate $200 - 300.

Sender was apparently unaware of the July 1st rate change to 10¢ for any distance. Except for Post Office business, all business mail was subject to standard postage rates.

Confederacy, 1862, 5¢ light blue, De La Rue printing, tied by "Charleston S.C. Jun 9" cds on homemade envelope addressed locally to Col. Joseph Abney at the Charleston Hotel; reduced slightly at right, Very Fine and scarce overpaid drop letter use.

Confederacy, 1862, 5¢ light blue, De La Rue printing, four margins, tied by "Charleston S.C. Jun 26 186" cds on flap sealing adversity folded letter made from blue line paper from Fort Johnson, Charleston Harbor addressed locally, a Very Fine and unusual overpaid drop letter use.
Scott No. 6    Estimate $150 - 200.

The sender was a S.C. State artillery man not enrolled in Confederate service, hence his letter could not be sent collect as that privilege was extended only to men serving.

Confederacy, 1862, 5¢ blue, Archer & Daly printing, strip of eight, full margins to cut in at left, tied by six strikes of "Charleston S.C. Apr 4" cds on blue legal size cover containing the monthly report of the 8th N.C. Regiment to the Commissary General at Richmond Va., manuscript "Official Business" notation at top right and 1863 docketing at left; reduced slightly at right, receipt docketing at right, F.-V.F.
