"Judah Tuoro" of 332 tons built at New Albany, Indian in 1854 for Capt. Samuel Gwartney. First enrolled at New Orleans 11th January 1855 for the New Orleans to Shreveport trade. Burnt at Shreveport in July 1863 to avoid capture by Union forces. Named after Judah Tuoro (1775-1854) who was a prominent steamboat owner and a major philanthropist in New Orleans.

This letter entered the mails as a way letter on its course from Shreveport to New Orleans on the Red River. "Latona" of 197 tons ran as far as Fort Caddo, Texas on the Red River but was contracted by the trip for Shreveport to New Orleans.

Dalmau, black oval handstamp on folded cover from the Carroll Hoy correspondence to New Orleans La., docketed as entering the mails at New Orleans May 11th 1852 and with black "Paid, F.A. PROBABLY THE FINEST RECORDED STRIKE OF THE POST BOY PACKET MARKING.
In July 1851, the Shreveport to New Orleans route was entered as Route 6103 with its course altered to avoid the slough on which Natchitoches was located. The new port for Natchitoches was built under the bluffs of Grand Ecore situated to the north of the town.

"Sydonia" of 235 tons was built at Cincinnati in 1851 and ran from Shreveport, this letter being put on along the course of Route 6103.

The "Texas Ranger" of 159 tons was built at New Albany in 1851. She ran the Red River trade under Capt. William Stockman until sold to the U.S. Quartermaster in late 1853.

The "W.W. Farmer" of 207 tons was built at Louisville in 1854. She ran New Orleans - Ouachita River trade under Capt. John W. Cannon as part owner. Cannon went on to own the "Robert E. Lee" after the Civil War.

"Amanda" of 142 gross tons was built at Louisville in 1852 for the Mobile - New Orleans trade. In April 1857, she was purchased by Henry Tucker with Capt. N.C. Briggs as Master operating on the Red River.
In July 1855, Route 7702 was designated as the Shreveport to New Orleans route with stops at Grand Ecore for Natchitoches and Alexandria.
