1895, 4¢ dark brown, diagonal bisect, bottom left diagonal half, tied across cut by bold "Wadham's Mills N.Y. Apr 1 12 PM 1898" cds, second strike at left, on locally addressed cover to Rev. Edw. J. Abbott, Postmaster's notation "Out of .1 & .2 $ G.H.P." at top right where rest of stamp would have been; reduced at left, otherwise Very Fine.

A RARE 4¢ 1895 BUREAU ISSUE BISECT, APPARENTLY DUE TO A SHORTAGE OF 1¢ OR 2¢ STAMPS AT WADLAM'S MILLS, ONE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED.

The Whitpain collection contained a matching pair of covers used on the same day from Wadham's Mills N.Y. that realized $2,645 each in 2009. All three covers have the matching notation by the postmaster noting the 1¢ and 2¢ stamp shortage.

1898, 2¢ red, type IV, three singles, tied by "San Francisco Cal, Sta-D, Aug 30 1902" machine cancel on Huff correspondence cover to Habrofsk, Amoor River, Eastern Siberia, blue crayon "2" indicating double-weight and bold "20/Ctms/T" due (4¢) rating handstamp with partial credit, various backstamps including Kobe (9.21), Nagasaki (9.23) and Russian arrivals, purple "Due/Sen" and instructional tombstone handstamps, docketed as received Sep. 16th; right stamp slightly affected from edge placement, F.-V.F. and attractive, a rare destination.
